The research purpose is to examine the role of the Palestinian think tanks in shaping the general policies of the institutions of the Palestinian Authority, and to what extent the think tanks contributed to rationalizing the political decisions of the Palestinian Authority.
The problem of the study focused on its main question. What are the reasons that led to the weakening of the role of think tanks in shaping public policies of the Palestinian Authority?, Although the existence of the Palestinian Civil Society institutions were before the establishment of the Palestinian Authority and played major role in shaping Palestinian socio-political sphere.
The research assumes that the think tanks have a limited role in affecting the public policy of the Palestinian Authority as a result of the absence of the state and its independence, as well as being party institutions.
The research was based on the analytical descriptive approach, which described the nature and role of the Palestinian think tanks, and then analyzed the factors that led to their limited impact on the public policies of the Palestinian Authority.
The results of the research are a set of results, the most important of which are: The limited role of the Palestinian think tanks is due to the nature of the nascent Palestinian political system, which was based on the Oslo agreements and its limitations, which influenced the effectiveness of policies. The absence of sovereignty played an important role in weakening the role of think tanks.the increased donors role impact the Think –tanks policies, as well as the tendency of most institutions to work populist and charitable was a main factor that have weakened their role.
