Educational institutions, originally designed for the Industrial Revolution era, now face unprecedented challenges brought about by the digital transformation and the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution (Arar et al., 2024). These forces are fundamentally reshaping teaching methodologies, learning paradigms, professional capital, and organizational culture in schools (Arar & Chen, 2021; Arar et al., 2023).

Our call for papers recognized this pivotal moment in educational history and seeks contributions that examine how AI is transforming educational leadership across multiple dimensions, including ensuring equitable access, redesigning curricula, developing ethical frameworks, and fostering human-machine collaboration. The response to this call has been remarkable, resulting in a collection of studies that advance both theoretical understanding and practical knowledge of AI in educational leadership. This special issue brings together pioneering, and cutting edge research that explores critical questions about how AI-powered technology is shaping educational leadership:

  • What are the potential opportunities and implications of human-machine symbiosis in educational leadership as we advance further into the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
  • What ethical considerations must be addressed to ensure the responsible integration of AI in educational leadership?
  • How can we develop effective policies for the safe and equitable integration of AI in educational settings?
