This paper aims to determine and prioritize the green practices that most effectively boost the sustainability performance of local governments in Palestine. The main green practices in local government units are categorized
under four main criteria, namely: green human resource management, green public procurement, green operations and municipal services, and green local governance. Meanwhile, 32 sub-criteria were implied under
these four categories. The prioritization process is conducted using the Analytical Hierarchy Process as a multicriterion decision-making approach. This process was done based on data collected through pairwise comparisons
from local experts representing academia, municipalities, governmental institutions, and the local market. Results revealed that the operations and municipal services category is the highest priority for sustainable
development with 46% weight, followed by the public procurement category (22.8%), human resource management category (20.4%), and finally the local governance category (10.8%). At the local level, within the human resource management category, policy development and commitment sub-criteria ranked highest with(18.8%), while, within GPP, Collaboration and Partnerships and Green Procurement Policy and Commitment jointly ranked first, each with a local weight of 16.4%. Finally, within the local governance category, vision,
goals, and actions achieved the top weight (23.1%). The findings of this study serve the fulfillment of some Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the Palestinian context, namely, waste water management (SDG 6.3), renewable energy (SDG 7.2), reducing the environmental impact of cities (SDG 11.6) and sustainable public procurement (SDG 12.7).
