We explain the linguistic ambiguities resulting from the abusive use of the terms citizenship, secularism, human rights and democracy, and how the different political, religious, and intellectual classes try to put these concepts in the Arabic and Islamic contexts in order to serve their own interests. Furthermore, we provide some terms that could go beyond the problematic use of the current concepts and terms, with a focus on the main objectives of citizenship: equality and equity for all in front of law.
