Course Objectives

This course focuses on the advanced chemistry of natural products (plants, marines, fungus and others) which used in the pharmaceutical practice (with physiological effects or used in the pharmaceutical industry) and focuses how to manufacture drugs from them

Intended learning Outcomes and Competences

a-  Knowledge and Understanding:

a.1. To recognize classifications of natural compounds, also their structures and sources.

a.2. To describe the physical and chemical properties of natural compounds

a.3. To list the natural products medications, and supplements in the Palestinian Pharmaceutical market.

a.4. To describe different methods of isolation and identification

a.5. To recognize the biosynthesis of natural products

 

b- Intellectual Skills.

b.1. To demonstrate the differentiations between all the chemical classes of natural compounds.

b.2. To evaluate the new methods of identification for natural compounds .

b.3. To identify the methods of isolations of natural compounds products according to their chemical structures.

c- Professional and Practical Skills:

c.1. To design new methods for isolation of the phyto compounds

c.2. To solve problems related to the identification and isolation of natural compounds

c.3. To critique different methods of identification (old and new)

 d- General and transferable skills:

d.1. Search Internet database for diagnostic measures in natural products chemistry.

d.2. Independent learning

d.3. Appreciate teamwork in the seminar.
