This course is designed to prepare the student to take appropriate action in providing emergency first aid care to others until professional emergency responders arrive through introducing both life threatening and non-life-threatening medical scenarios and to instruct the student how to recognize and respond appropriately to each given situation. Also, to familiarize students with first aid which is the initial assistance or treatment given to a person who is injured or suddenly becomes ill. The course includes adult one-man CPR, use of an AED, rescue breathing and obstructed airway skills.
Recognize when someone needs CPR, take consents and permissions to perform primary assessment, use personal protective equipment taking into consideration the infection control measures.
Describe how to perform CPR for adults, children, Infants and demonstrate using an AED on adults and children.
Describe when and how to help a choking adult, child and infants.
Recognize the main elements of common illnesses and injuries.
Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: Heart attack, Stroke and TIA, wounds, choking, bleeding, shock, fractures, head and spinal injuries, Burns, seizures, hypoglycemia, Anaphylaxis, poisoning and animal stings and bites.
