Course Description

This course is designed to build a strong foundation for the basics in nutrition and its role in human well-being. Moreover, it aims to expand student’s knowledge of macronutrients and micronutrients. Giving a full description of their components, functions, digestion and absorption.

Course Objectives
  1. Identify the important terms used in the field of nutrition and their definition.

 

  1. Understand the factors that affect Human Nutrition and basics process of assessment of health related to nutrition.

 

  1. Explore different dietary reference values and nutritional requirements in relation to different health status and population groups.
  2. Learn the structure, classification, use, digestion and absorption of macronutrients and their interrelation of health maintenance.
  3. Describe the classification of minerals, their roles, their bioavailability and nutritional recommendations.

Describe possible symptoms of macro and micronutrient deficiencies and appreciate consequences of excessive consumption.
