Purpose:  Green construction projects in Palestine suffer from the frequent occurrence of disputes among contractual parties (owner, designer, and contractor). Hence, this study aims to identify and evaluate the causes of disputes in these kinds of projects.

Methods: About thirty-three causes of disputes in green construction projects were identified from literature and interviews with subject matter experts. Thereafter, the questionnaire has been developed and distributed randomly to fifty professional experts. A five-point Likert scale has been used to determine the significance index for each of the identified causes to rank them accordingly.

Results and interpretation: The results displayed that the most significant causes of disputes were the poor management process of green construction activities, lack of awareness of the project team about green construction projects, and the development of an incomplete set of bid documents for green construction. This can be attributed to the unfamiliarity of project teams with the requirements of green construction projects. Therefore, they assigned unqualified designers and project managers to design and manage such kinds of projects.

Conclusion: The findings of this study can be used as a guideline to enhance integration and coordination among contractual parties to minimize adversarial relations among them in future projects. Moreover, it is expected to improve the awareness and familiarity of contractual parties with the requirements of such projects.
