The research, employing the descriptive-analytical approach, deals with Muhammad Arkoun’s position on the arrangement of the Holy Qur’an’s surahs, and the extent to which he benefited from the views of orientalists before him, by clarifying the relationship between his ideas and the ideas of orientalists through his writings, which gives an indication of Arkoun’s intellectual orientation, and the extent of his adoption of modernist thought, through The issue of the arrangement of the fence in the Holy Quran.

Arkoun built his view of the Holy Qur’an, and the arrangement of its surahs and verses, on three foundations: the differentiation between the oral text and the written text, the historically of the Qur’anic text, and the chaos of the arrangement of verses and surahs. Arkoun proceeded to say the order of the verses and the surahs based on the history of the revelation and based on the use of the analytical method of Quranic words, and he applied his method scientifically when studying some of the chapters of the Holy Quran.
