This study examines child-rearing in Islam in the thought of Sayyid Qutb as reflected in his Qur’anic commentary Fi Zilal al-Qur’an (In the Shade of the Qur’an). It focuses on three pillars: safeguarding children’s creed, establishing a nurturing educational environment, and ensuring children’s material and psychological rights. The study aims to elucidate Qutb’s methodological approach to child-rearing within the exegetical contexts of Fi Zilal al-Qur’an by tracing his presentation of educational issues and his priorities in guiding the Muslim family. Using descriptive and analytical approaches, the study finds that Qutb’s reform-oriented concern leads him to foreground child-rearing whenever the context allows, with particular emphasis on sound creed and religious upbringing, an appropriate educational milieu, and the protection of children’s material and psychological rights. It recommends expanding Qur’an-grounded educational research—especially on child-rearing—and advancing methodological studies of Fi Zilal al-Qur’an that further examine Qutb’s approach to reform-related themes.
