As the title indicates, this research Analyzes actantial shifting out in the story “Mendelbaum’s Gate” by Emile Habibi, traces the Methods of its operation, and aims to analysis the functions it performs at discourse. It deals with the forms of reported discourse in the story, through which the actantial shifting out is achieved. It stops at the structure of dialogue, reported monologue, immediate discourse, and Metanarrative, and analyzes the places in which they appear, and clarifies the functions that they performed within the story’s discourse.  

It concludes that actantial shifting out has effectiveness in application and returns in analysis, and its role in adding realism to the story’s discourse and building its significance becomes clear.
