Constructing Norms of Some Dynamic Pulmonary Measures of Male Physical Education Majors at An-Najah National University

The purpose of this study was to construct norms of some dynamic pulmonary measures of male physical education majors at An-Najah National University. Furthermore, to determine the difference in pulmonary measures according to smoking variable. The sample of the study consisted of (192) male physical education majors at An-Najah National University, and (Spirovit SP- 1) spirometer was used for measuring Forced Expiratory Volume in one second (FEV1) L, Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV) L/M, Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) L, and FEVI/ FVC%. The results revealed that the means of (FEV1), (FVC), (MVV) and FEVI/FVC% were respectively: (5.005 L, 5.69 L, 159.87 L/M, and 88.03%), and the best norms of these variables were respectively: (5.90 L, 6.65 L, 185 L/ M, and 90%).Furthermore, the results revealed significant differences in these variables between smokers and nonsmokers in favor of non-smokers. Based on the study findings, the researcher recommended to conduct pulmonary function tests regulary because of their significance of pulmonary health, and diagnosis of deseases.
