The javelin throw is a complex and compound skill that requires a sequential and well-coordinated execution. Mastery of this skill necessitates instructional programs that clearly demonstrate proper technical performance. Understanding the correct technique of the javelin throw requires biomechanical analysis of kinematic performance variables and their relationship to achieving optimal performance outcomes. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify the kinematic measurements that most contribute to the performance achievement in the javelin throw among students of the Department of Physical Education at An-Najah National University.

The researchers employed a descriptive analytical methodology, as it was appropriate for the objectives of the study. The sample consisted of a purposive sample of 21 students enrolled in the Track and Field (2) course in the Department of Physical Education at An-Najah National University.

The results indicated a statistically significant positive relationship at the significance level (α ≥ 0.05) between certain kinematic variables—approach speed, length of the last step, maximum linear velocity of the shoulder joint, release angle, and projection angle—and javelin throw performance achievement among the students. Pearson’s correlation coefficients ranged from −0.53 to 0.84. In contrast, no statistically significant relationship was found between the other kinematic variables and performance achievement. The findings also showed no statistically significant relationship for the variable of maximum flexion of the front knee joint, with a mean value of 147.01 degrees.

The researchers recommend the utilization of kinematic measurements for athlete selection by coaches of the Palestinian Athletics Federation, in order to prepare national teams based on sound scientific principles and to develop athletes at the national level.
