The application of innovative nanotechnologies to medicine “nanomedicine” has the potential to significantly benefit clinical practice, offering solutions to many of the current limitations in diagnosis, treatment and management of human disease.1 Among nanotechnology-derived nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have stimulated a great interest for biomedical applications because of their unique mechanical, electrical, thermal and spectroscopic properties.2 In this work, I will present some of the main advances in the functionalization of carbon nanotubes with carbohydrates and its potential application as antibacterial activity. On the other hand, the development of new nanomaterial (GNS) as a potent nanovector of the anticancer drug camptothecin (CPT) will be presented and comparative results of in vitro activity of their inclusion complex (GNS/CPT) as nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems of 3rd generation for the controlled delivery of CPT in the inhibition of carcinogenic cell proliferation.3
